They started out as Operation Ivy minus Tim Armstrong, then the band met Tim "lint" Armstrong and he needed a job to support his raging alcohol dependency, so they formed a band, a damn good band. The one thing about Rancid that makes them stand out is their blazing bass solos. Matt Freeman can smoke the strings straight off of his bass. Rancid is a great trashy/hardcore punk band with 4 cd's out there. S/T, Let's Go, Out Come the Wolves and their latest Life Won't Wait are available at CDNow.com. Life Won't Wait, their most recent release is an experimental album in which they differ from their usual tracks, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. For example "Bloodclot" is a new type of song and arguably the best on that album, while Hoover Street just plain sucks. Either way Rancid is a great band with their trademark distorted screaming and their flaming bass solos.
