blasphemy

good little catholic girl are you tempted?

good little decent girl do you want to?

i promise you i won't tell a soul

about the thoughts that you've been thinking

i'm only interested in your salvation

there's only one reason i want you to love me

and that's so one day i can help you get over it

when you're too sad, too sad to move

too much of anything isn't good for you

and when it feels so good well it must be bad

must be, must be

you worry about how jesus might take this

well say a little prayer and come to me

you ask me not to but i bleed all over your lap

and now all you're worried about is how to get your pants clean

and you tell me some people's hands just feel like hands

but you put your spirit in your fingers

you ask why is it so good why can't i stop

i tell you i've worked hard to create your compulsion

and if you want to scare me i'll let you

and if you want to scare me i'd like you to

hurt me, hurt me

girl, girl, it's all in good fun

girl, girl, there's no need to run

girl, girl, you're not the only one

girl, girl, it's all in good fun

sarah says: this song comes from a few different places. most notably, from one of the best films ever made, stephen frears' dangerous liaisions. in the film, john malkovich's character valmont, makes a deal with rich, scheming widow, merteuil (glenn close). she says that if valmont can seduce the very married and very proper madame de tourvel (michelle pfeiffer) then he can have his way with her. valmont accepts the challenge. "To seduce a woman famous for strict morals, religious fervour and the happiness of her marriage, what could possibly be more prestigous?" at one point during the ensueing seduction, valmont vows that he wishes not to tear down madame de tourvel's standards and morals, but to present such an irresistable proposal that she will be unable to be controlled by them. "You see I have no intention of breaking down her prejudices. I want her to beleive in god and virtue and the sancity of marriage and still not be able to stop herself. I want the excitement of watching her betray everything that is most important to her."
