album review - sria session

SARAH STEFANSON

(broken like a starfish)

Her voice is older than she looks. This album has the feel of a singer/songwriter who's playing to her friends, with a microphone casually turned on in the room. It was actually recorded at Remote Recorders, Saskatoon with Neil Meckelborg, and produced by Sarah. She likes unorthadox melodies and/or chords (or maybe it's just the way she combines them...) Someone should be nice to this young writer - she sings of a series of emotional heartaches and love gone wrong. My favourite track was SPAZOID FREAK OUT. Among the many intriguing lyrics, my favourite wordset was "...dance in the monster of my lyric."
