They got closer and began hearing the conversation.
"Oh yeah, well they just fell asleep."
"Oh!" replied Mandy, "I thought it looked a tad strange.. I mean.. she's in his lap!"
"Yeah.. well," Brian looked around, he wasn't exactly a great liar, "You see.."
"Yeah?"
"Uh.. well.. what happened is.. well.. like I told you, he dropped her, and that just shook her up and.. she's real sad right now, and he's trying to be.. nice. To also make up for this morning, and.. dropping her.. yeah."
"I can't believe he 'dropped' her! Poor kid!"
Brian smiled, they bought it, "Yeah.. well they were posing and he drops her!"
"Awww!" purred Leighanne, "They look so 'cute' together!"
Mandy nodded, "Ain't she a doll face?"
The two fawned over Nick and Mary, while the rest of them stood off, amazed, shaking their heads and laughing.
Mandy had even gone as far as getting a blanket from a photographer for them.
Eventually, Mandy and Leighanne left. It was nearly time to leave, and after Caryn, the interviewer spoke to them again about photograph captions, they got ready to leave. When they arrived at the hotel, Brian pulled Nick aside.
"Hey Nicky!"
"B-Rok, wassup man?"
"Mandy came by for you earlier.."
"Yeah?"
"She saw you and Mary.."
"Oh.. that's.. she mad?"
"No man.. I covered for you."
"Why did you do that?"
"The girl was on your 'lap'!"
"So! Who cares what Mandy thinks!"
"You fool! You and AJ are fools! Crazy! Besides, don't mix business with pleasure! Him and Jenna, you and Mary.. what are the fans going to say when those pictures get released?"
"What about Leighanne?"
"That's different!"
"It's not!"
"Yes it is! When me and Leighanne got together, we weren't both dating other people!"
"She's not with that Derek guy anymore!"
"They just broke up today! You just met her yesterday.. and that's long enough to know that you should throw out a serious relationship?! Too much has happened I so little time already!"
"So what! I like her!"
"What about Mandy?"
"I 'don't' like her.. Mandy's Mandy.. I can deal!"
"You've been with Mandy forever! Don't throw that away because a pretty girl smiles at you!"
Nick smiled dreamily, "She 'is' pretty, isn't she?"
"Nick! You don't even know if she likes you!"
"She 'has' to! Didn't you see that kiss she gave me for the shoot?"
"That's all it was, Nick! For the 'shoot'!
"It wasn't!"
"Think about what you're doing for once!"
Nick's tone turned defensive, "I 'do'! Why are you saying I don't!?"
"Nick! You've known her for two days!"
"Time has no meaning when you're in love.."
"You're not in love!"
"Yes I am! Why are you being so mean, Brian? You're supposed to support me! Stop acting like Kevin!"
"Because I don't want you to throw away a good thing!"
"Yeah, whatever! You're acting like Kevin! You are! and you're picking on me! Go yell at AJ!"
"Nick!"
Nick ran into the elevator, and pressed the close button.
