Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League and the Canadian Hockey League announced it has approved that the Canadian Hockey League member leagues use the same reporting format for league standings that has been adopted by the National Hockey League for the upcoming 2000-2001 season.
The WHL will be using the term OTL to indicate those games lost in overtime. This will replace the term RT that was used last season. In addition, the team’s loss column will only indicate those games lost in regulation time. When a team loses in overtime, the loss will be recorded in the column headed OTL.
With this new format, the reader will now be able to add the four results columns - wins, losses, ties and OTL - to determine the number of games a team has played.
Teams will receive two points for victories and one point for ties or losses in overtime
