the happening

sarnamy's creative writing teacher told them that in the 60s people called events "happenings". it seemed like a good title.

Friday, August 20th @ 7 p.m.

Senior Citizens Hall (614 11 St. just off Broadway)

featuring

"boys & girls"

"sometimes the fairies just get us mixed up"

a comedic drama in one act written & directed by Sarah & Amy Stefanson

and musical performances by

Sarah Stefanson

"of all the fishes in the sea there's no one quite like me but you left me broken like a starfish and i wonder when you'll regret it"

Sarah Stefanson started writing songs at age 15, as the logical next step from poetry. Since then she has enjoyed much success in and around the beautiful city of Saskatoon both as a solo performer and appearing with several other players bringing original folk songs to the city's coffeeshop, bar, and festival scenes. She released her debut album, "broken like a starfish," in 1998 and is currently doing shows to promote the CD. The "happening" is a labour of love for Sarah who also wrote/directed/starred in "boys & girls."

Hawaiian Mafia

BWANA Reports: File 420....THE HAWAIIAN MAFIA

The Hawaiian Mafia is a small group of renegade convicts who disguise their true motivations by posing as a surf-rock band. Composed of three members (Clint Needham, Chris Lefebvre and Jeff Pederson), these rag-tag misfits formed the Mafia in September of 1998 and have been disturbing the peace in the Saskatoon area ever since. With such devious demonstrations as the ABCI Coffeehouse, the NCYC Bassment Affair and the Vimy Memorial Crisis, they move forward into a new age of terrorism and prepare to unload it on August 20, 1999 at an event known only as "The Happening." Our experts have managed to intercept and decode several messages between the syndicate group and the one they call Booberoo, and from what we can tell they not only plan to release an album jam-packed with rockin' tunes and cryptic subliminal messages, but also out do themselves with a show so spectacular it will shake the very foundations of our fair city. If all goes as planned, no one will be safe. The conspiracy runs on dangerous ground and suspects involved in the case go as high as Chris Krieger of Global News himself! Will the Hawaiian Mafia reign terror over its audience once again? Only time will tell....

Crown Nectar

"passion is my name for you" ~Jonas

Crown Nectar formed in 1994 as an admittedly "Nirvana-influenced" band and have since broken off into more varied and sophisticated types of music. The band is made up of Paolo Fenu (bass, keyboard, vocal), J. P. Perron (drums), and Luke Ryalls (guitar, lead vocals). In the five years that Crown Nectar has been playing, some of their favourite gigs have been backyard parties. They also list opening for Feederchain at Amigo's as one of their best shows. A large and varied list of influences have shaped Crown Nectar's sound which has been described by one devoted fan as "round and full, just like a big fat circus clown". Sadly, "the happening" will be one of Crown Nectar's last gigs as Paolo has decided to move to Italy in the fall for an undetermined amount of time.

the organizers would like to thank everyone who came out to see the play and/or the happening. your support meant a lot to us. we had a massive amount of fun and learned a whole bunch of important life lessons. (examples: nobody drinks diet cola. always rehearse on a new stage before you perform there. too many lamps on stage make the power unco-operative. luke is a master of crisis. the assistant manager of the hose n hydrant is a dickhead. calling dibs on boys, can and does happen. it is possible for sarah to lunge angrily. there are times when having boys as friends is better than dating them. sometimes you cry when you're not expecting to.)
