October 6, 1999 - Portland, OR @ Satyricon
By: Emily Miller

I have to start out by saying this was my 6th Sleater-Kinney show and my very 1st 21+ show because I'm just a baby. The night was VERY long. I don't remember what time the Braille Stars started because I was caught up in the moment of being 1 foot away from the girls, as well as the fact that Carrie recognized me from the night before and smiled and gave me a little wave. Very sweet of her. Braille Stars played a very lovely set. I'm not too familiar with any of their songs I saw them once before for about 15 minutes at the AIM fest. Sarah Dougher's set was nice. I either had better positioning at this show so I could hear more vocals or the system was set up better. Either way I love Sarah and have since I saw her in the Lookers. She puts off a very strong/ in control presence when she is performing. Then Sleater-Kinney took the stage. They had pretty much the same set list as the previous night with a couple minor changes. They played Maracas, Little Babies, and I can't quite think of what else. For the encore they played Get Up, The End of You and I believe Jenny. Forgot to write the last one down considering at this point carrie had pointed out it was way past her bedtime and mine(1:30am). The new songs are great. A lot more enjoyable the second time hearing them. Was It A Lie, All Hands On the Bad One, and You're no Rock n Roll Fun are my faves of the new songs. I think that is about all the girls like I said before are so faboulous and after I got over the initial nervousness of even thinking about speaking to them are very wonderful and easy to speak with. Oh one more thing. The stage is a perfect height to be right up front and not suffer the dreaded cramped neck and back that feels like an elephant walked all over you syndrome.
