I got this from the s-k mailing list:
Just thought I would update those who are concerned: We took Carrie to
the doctor Monday, where she was x-rayed and determined to have
re-injured her back during this tour. Her spine was ok, but the tendons
she uses to play guitar so actively were frayed. The doctor ordered her
to take a week or two lying down then begin physical therapy to rebuild
the muscles. Fortunately they caught it in time, but if she had
continued the tour she risked chronic back pain for the rest of her
life. She is expected to make a full recovery, and will play at her
full capacity once she has rested.
The band were very upset for the fans and other bands coming to their
shows, however Carrie's health was the obvious first priority. These
are the first shows they have ever cancelled, so they took the decision
very seriously. They immediately began working on rescheduling the
dates for the east coast, which have probably been posted by now. As
the long drives in the van were contributing to the injury, they are
holding off on re-scheduling the mid-west until they get a better sense
of how her recovery is going. As they toured the Mid-West in late 98,
hopefully the fans will be understanding. They will do everything they
can to play once it is safe.
After the initial depression and sadness about ending the tour passed,
things are going better. The weather here is beautifull. Friends in
town and kids who drove in for Cibbo Matto's show last night have been
very supportive. Carrie was in good spirits and is flying home today.
Corin and Janet will stay in Athens for a little while, before heading
home. Elliott Smith, Sam Coomes, Number 2, and Junior High will all be
in town in a few days, so it is sort of like a mini-vacation with
friends in the sun.
The band Sarge, who were opening for SK at the 40 Watt tonight will
still be playing, without Flin-Flon. If you are in the area, please go
support them as they are a great band and may not have much of an
audience tonight. That's it for now.
Sleater-Kinney are on the cover of Magnet Magazine.
Janet was at the Versus show last night. She played the tamborine with them on some songs.
