heres my providence experience...i live in new britain, ct. so it was a long ride from here to providence, ri, so i passed the time reading bust magazine and chatting with haley, and the three other girls who were going to the show. when we got there we went parked and then went to lupos to find out what time the show would begin and decided we had enough time to go find something to eat. we got back to lupos and sam(friend of mine) found us me and hugged me as tight as she could. haley and sam know each other through sams mailing list called Girl Walking Backwards so it was there first time meeting in person. i was really glad sam was there because we had been best friends for three years, and we got into sleater-kinney together.
the gossip went on first, they were good and the singer, beth was really nice and great with the crowd. while they were playing sam pointed out to me that carrie was off to the side watching, then corin came out and joined her. i was so excited because it was then that it really sank in that we were finally gonan see them live! the butchies were next, i hadn't heard much of there music at all but they were really good and also very cool with the audience. the drummer melissa was hilarious and gave a wonderful and inspirational poetry reading, hahaha!! i had no idea from pictures that kaia was that hot, i mean wow...she was so nice too! Alison is beautiful with a voice to match! i gotta get to the store sometime and pick up a butchies cd!
i was freaking out inside the whole time we waited for sleater-kinney to go on stage, grabbing sam and haley and saying oh my god sleater-kinney is next! i might sound like a huge dork but living in connecticut we don't see much of sleater-kinney and for me this was a once in a life time opportunity because in sept. i am off to bootcamp, i don't think the military gives leave to go to a show! so yeah...sk went on and didn't for one second let my high hopes down! they did alotta new stuff but threw in a few older songs here and there. this was great because i havn't gotten the new album yet even though i ordered it online from kill rock stars on 5/4/00! sam has a set list so ill get a copy of that and post what songs they did sometime later. sk is awesome live, the power of corins voice is amazing it just seems to come from nowhere, and carrie is great on guitar while jumping around and kicking. janet was good too but she didn't look too happy to be there, maybe she was just having a bad day!? they did two encores of about six songs which included heart factory which was awesome cause both me and sam had hoped they would play that.
after the show janet came back out and was talking to melissa while taking apart her drums so sam got her attention and got her setlist and i had her sign my hot rock promo poster. i met corin next and thanked her for playing and told her her music means alot to me etc. and talked to her a little as she signed my poster. then i met carrie and also thanked her for playing etc. and said how being on the east coast it was really special to see em and that it was my first and last opportunity to see them because i am leaving, she told me to stay strong and wished me luck in the military.
as we were leaving i saw that kaia was sitting on the stage talking to a bunch of girls so i went over and had her sign my marines enlistment card, i thought this was cute cause she is this hot lesbian and the military is homophobic...ok well i found it amusing as did she! she also wished me luck and to stay strong.
now it was time to leave *sobs* we all piled back into the car and stopped at a gas station for drinks and snacks on our way back to CT. i fell esleep for most of the ride and woke up right before they dropped me off. i said my good byes and headed in the house. even though it was after 3am i checked my email and was online for a while cause i was still too damn sexcited to go straight back to sleep.
