Ricardo de Souza Boppré, born on February 5, 1953, in Tubarão, Santa Catarina, Brazil, has since his early years dedicated himself to the art of the guitar. When only 13 years old he showed interest in serenades and guitar scores. At 18, he moved to the State capital and joined the Associação Coral de Florianópolis, (City Choir). With a degree in Pedagogy and Law, Ricardo always found time to express his music. As a self-taught guitarist, he always tried to be as eclectic as possible, equally playing Beethoven, Chopin, Bach, Ernesto Nazareth, Pixinguinha, Tom Jobim and many others, showing that the guitar is omnipresent in all music styles. In 1980 he won the first prize at both the First Academic Guitar Festival and the Program of Incentive to the Creation of Small Music Groups, which awarded him to record his first LP, “O Violão em Duas Dimensões” (The Guitar in Two Dimensions). This record is also the first guitar record made in Santa Catarina. In the same year he founded the guitar class at the Federal University of Santa Catarina and in 1985 the same class at the State’s Culture Foundation. In 1982, his second record, “Violão, Violão e Violão” (Guitar, Guitar and Guitar), became a reference in the State’s musical scenery. In 1985, with his third LP, “O Universo do Violão” (The Universe of the Guitar), his art was fully recognized. Some years later he recorded the CD “Dedos e Cordas” (Fingers and Strings). At the same time, he always gave concerts at theaters and TV, and helped form many guitarists as a teacher. Today, with a mature art and technique, he makes arrangements of popular and classical music for guitar, piano, orchestra and other instruments using the computer, and he composes as well. At the peak of his activity, Ricardo created a website where his scores are available for download here:
