Californiad deals with the history of California from the indigenous perspective. In the format of epic poetry it is easily readable as a flowing narrative woven around the single most famous indigenous figure from California (never named since his name is unknown). Theo Radić has been studying Native Californian cultures for decades. The dramatic stories intertwined around the main story come very often directly from indigenous storytellers in their own languages recorded, translated and edited by anthropologists and historians. All sources are listed in an appendix. The violent and bloody history of California is something which was totally left out of public education. The book will shock the reader as the author was shocked during his research. |
