Edson Lopes was born on July 23,1957. He is a graduate of the "Dr. Carlos de Campos" Music Conservatory, Tatuí, Brazil, and of the London Trinity College of Music. First prize-winner in several national competitions, such as the Globo TV Young Artist Competition and the Bank of Brazil National Competition, Mr. Lopes attended the XXII Compostela, Spain, Guitar Class, under the tutelage of world-renowned Andrés Segovia’s assistant José Tomás, where he received the prize “Most Talented” student. A sought after performer, Mr. Lopes has led a busy schedule with appearances throughout Brazil in solo, duo, and trio appearances, as well as performing concertos with orchestra. As a former member of the Brazilian Guitar Quartet, Mr. Lopes has toured the US performing in Houston, Dallas, Austin, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Albuquerque, Hollywood, Indianapolis, Washington DC, and New York among others. Edson Lopes also performed in Hong Kong at the 33rd Arts Festival, in Monterey, Mexico, at the VII International Guitar Festival, and in Denmark, at the V International Guitar Festival in the city of Aarhus. As a pedagogue, Mr. Lopes teaches his advanced class in classical guitar at the Tatuí Conservatory. He is also the conductor and arranger for the OCTOPUS Guitar Ensemble.
