Chapter 4: The Dream
Chapter 4: The dream

Clef laid in the soft bed that he had known during his stay here during the fight for the pillars. Never before had he not been able to fall asleep in the inviting covers and sheets. His small body fit perfectly in the niche that he had developed during the long battle, but tonight there was something definently preventing his slumber. Tossing and turning, he couldn't even concentrate on meditating to calm him. He kept remembering that shock as he touched the earth as the first earthquake hit. He remembered the voices screaming in his head of pain and loss and the insatiable urge to find *her*. "But where did that come from!" he thought. "HER...." With that thought he slowly closed his eyes, and drifted slowly into slumber.

"Clef....Clef...." He heard a sweet melodic voice calling his name. Opening his eyes, he was bathed in a warm yellow light. "Clef. I need you to help me. I need you to find me."

"WAIT!" he yelled, reaching his hand out toward the source of the voice. "Who are you!"

"I am your destiny, Clef. You will find me."

Suddenly a small form of dark green light appeared in front of him. "My darling, why do you look like that?" the voice questioned softly.

"Like what?" he said, slightly offended.

"You are so young looking!" The light brightened for a moment and Clef could almost feel a femine hand pressed against his cheek. "You cannot fight with the power you have right now. Let me help you." the light said softly and lovingly. The light brightened so intensely that Clef was momentarily blinded and when the light died down, he could feel a new power coursing in his veins. His heart was burning, as his students so often said. He looked down at his body and suddenly he realized that he was no longer young. His body had grown! He looked as though he was 20, thin and tall, with the same whitish purple hair, and aqua eyes as before. But he was definently older.

"Much better." said the light softly. It sounded tired and he noticed that it was not as bright as before.

Clef cupped his hands in the air, unsure of their form and strength. They softly held the form of light and it shown brighter. "Are you?..." he began, but couldn't continue.

"Am I what?" the voice asked. "Am I what the earth is missing? Yes....I am." The light flickered for a moment and Clef could feel its hesitation in the pulse.

Clef held the form of light closer to his chest and felt its warmth. He felt so different with her. *Her*. "I think I understand now..." he said softly. "You are the base of the world. You are the emerald floor of the earth. You are the blue canopy of the sky and the water in the oceans. You are what holds this world together."

"Yes, I am." The light flickered in his hands.

"But why are you lost?! What happened to you?!" Clef pulled the light up to his eyes and stared deeply at it. The green light reflected off his eyes, turning them a greenish blue color

The light flickered again. "I am tired. I cannot explain right now. You must find me before the earth falls apart...." Clef looked at the light in his hands as it began to fade. "Find me Clef, and I will explain everything...."

"NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!" he screamed as the light totally died. Suddenly, he opened his eyes and shot straight up in bed. It felt different somehow. He looked around and moved back the drapes surrounding his bed. As he did and the light of early morning flooded his vision, he saw his hand.

"Oh no, please tell me it was just a dream!" he whispered to himself. He looked at his hand and it was bigger and more masculine. He looked down at his body. Under his tunic, there was not a twelve year old looking body but a twenty year old looking body! He rolled out of his bed and quickly walked toward the mirror. As he looked at his reflection he began to shake his head frantically back and forth. Suddenly he let out a loud cry. "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
