Clef, Umi, Fuu, and Hikaru stood on the back of Fyula as they traveled towards his sanctuary. Clef had stood stone quiet for most of the flight and was avoiding looking directly at any of the Magic Knights. Umi had become snobby again to him, and her constant yelling was driving him up the wall. He was resisting the urge to smack her on the head with his staff again, because he realized that in this form he couldn't. He looked like a grown man, he needed to act like one. *I can't just go around smacking people on the head!* he thought to himself as another burst from Umi brought his hands up to his ears. *I am a clam, dignified sorcerer, and I can find other ways of dealing with this.* He looked over at Umi who was ranting at Hikaru for some reason or another, and he slowly walked over to the three girls. He silently put his hand on Umi's shoulder and she looked up suddenly, almost in fright.
"Umi, please." began slowly before Umi could back away from him. "Umi, you are being too loud." His soft melodic voice fit more closely with his new form than his other small kid like form. Umi was positively stunned. She had never seen Clef act like this before. Suddenly, she was ashamed of her actions. Being punished by being smacked on the head was one thing, but this was different. She wanted to be quiet now.
She nodded her head and sat down on the fish's head. The other two girls looked at Clef, then Umi, and then at each other. Both of them had looks of utter astonishment on their faces. They walked Clef silently move back to his position at the top of Fyula's head and watch as the outcropping of his sanctuary came into veiw. Both girls walked up behind him and Umi stood to join them. The beauty was astounding, and each girl drew in their breath. Clef just stood taller and watched patiently as the fish flew towards the land.
As Fyula came to the edge, each girl hopped off, and Clef watched as each landed gracefully on the ground. "Would I be able to do that?" he mused. He shifted his new weight and softly jumped from Fyula's back. He landed with a soft whisper as his feet landed just perfectly on the ground. All the girls looked at him in awe, and Hikaru's face lit up.
"Master Clef! You jump is amazing! Many of the students at the dojo do not even have a jump like that!!" The stars in her eyes showed him her approval and he inwardly took great pride in his accomplishment. But outwardly it was the cold, serious exterior that was always there.
"Thank you Hikaru. I greatly appreciate that." Clef stood on the edge and went to Fyula. "Thank you, my pet. You are greatly appreciated. PET RETREAT!!" he yelled as Fyula shrunk and popped back into Clef's staff. He then turned to the girls. " But we need to focus. We have to find where we must start looking for the spirit."
Fuu looked at Clef silently. "Do you have any idea as to what the spirit's name is, so we don't have to call her just *the spirit*? Its a little unscientific, don't you agree?"
Clef shook his head. "I wasn't told what her name was. I don't think that she has one right now." Clef looked down with a frown. "I think that the best course of action would be to just start walking."
Fuu frowned as well. "That isn't very scientific. Isn't there anything you can try?"
"Well, there is maybe one thing..." Clef said softly.
"What, What!" cried Umi. "If you had something you could have tried, why didn't you try it right away?"
"It only just came to me!" he yelled back at her, but he quickly shut his mouth. He couldn't yell at them. He sat on the ground with his cloaks spread all around him so that none of his body was actually touching the earth. "I think that if I touch her, I can contact her."
Umi looked at him as if he was crazy. "What do you mean, TOUCH HER!" she screamed.
"Her." he said as he pointed one slender finger at the ground. "I have to contact her and that is the only thing I can think of." He gently set the palm of his hand flat on the surface, and as he did, a wave of emptiness flashed through him. He cried out in momentary pain but before the Magic Knights could move to comfort him, a look of euphoria passed over his face.
In his mind, the voices had stopped screaming, and were all silent. There, in the distances of another dimention, shone a tiny speck of green light. He could see it as if it were miles away, but nevertheless, it was there. The joy of knowing that he would find her passed through him like a gentle breeze. "I can see her." he whispered.
"See who?" said Hikaru as he opened his eyes.
"Her. The spirit." Clef stood away from the ground and he brushed away the momentary tears. "She is that way." pointing to the east.
"Well then, east it is!" said Hikaru triumphantly and they began to walk.
