Bebo's Project Camaro

The car is a 1990 Camaro Rally Sport. It came with a 3.1 V6 and a 700R4 tranny. It has T-tops and factory aluminum wheels. When the car was bought the engine didn’t run and it had been sitting outside for a year. The car was bought at a very reasonable price, considering there was no rust and just a minor ding in the fender. The T-tops don’t even leak. The original plan was to pull a 350 out of a van and put a cam, carb, and some crome on it and have a sharp car with a decent engine. Well next thing you know we are looking at 383 strokers, pontiac 400’s and even a big block 450 hp 427! Well finally a engine came along that put out 380 hp and was at a awesome price. We couldn’t pass it up. It was out of a 1988 truck and looked stock and had the wimpy TBI system. Like they say, don’t judge a book by its cover, look at the receipts. Now we plan to have a sharp car that will eat Mustangs for breakfast. Engine- 1988 Chevy 350 TBI (stock) bored .60 over balanced and blueprinted aftermarket cam turned crank ported and polished heads this is all that is done now. we will add the following soon Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold Carter AFB 625cfm carburetor (electric choke) Crome dress up kit Paint the engine (probably black) MSD ignition Body- The front drivers side fender was dented when the car was bought so we got a new one. The front clip and front ground effects piece had some damage, we plan to fix it ourselves The rest of the body is very clean and nice, t-tops don’t leak or anything We may decide to put black racing stripes and a cowl hood on it sometime next summer Tranny and rear end- The stock 700R4 seems to be in good condition. We will take it to a well known tranny guy to look it over and put a good shift kit in it. If it turns out that we can’t use this tranny then we will use a TH400. We considered a Borg-Warner T5 but the retrofitting and fabrication would be more work than it is worth. We will be installing a ratchet shifter to give it the 4-speed look. The rear end is a 10 bolt. No posi so it could get interesting with this engine but I have confidence in this rear end. Once again, if this can’t handle it we will beef it up with a 9” rear end. Interior- The interior again was in very nice shape. It was a smoker but no big deal. The dash has a small crack on it and the drivers seat has a small tear. Some seat covers will fix that problem. As far as radio goes, the stock cassette is not gonna cut it during our cruises. This is why we are going to replace all the factory speakers with high quality aftermarket speakers, and two ten inch subs. A pioneer head unit will find its way in there too. Don’t get us wrong, we like good bass-we just like to hear the rest of the music too.
