Say what you will about a band who changes lead singers, but I still enjoyed this brief CD. Think Less Than Jake on steroids - it's a more aggressive ska/punk than LtJ plays and I, frankly, think it's catchy and energetic, and overall enjoyable. The horn section isn't as talented as that of the Mad Caddies (or at least not as flashy), but the music they play fits well. Included on this single is a cover of Don Maclean's classic ballad, American Pie. Now, normally when you a cover a song, you learn the lyrics to the song. Catch 22 plays the chorus abut 15 times and never even attempts a verse. That aside, it's an amusing cover. There's nothing overly original about Catch 22's aggressive ska/punk style, but they play well and it sounds good. Now, I know Victory is a primarily hardcore label, so I guess that explains track 4, "The Death of My Blood is Your Indulgence" - a 45 second hardcore track. What's weird is there is a solid 15 minutes of dead air and then a hidden track. Catch 22 now has the award for most well-hidden song. Anyway, although this is a good single, I don't think it's worth the price unless you can pick it up at a show - singles are usually 8 or 9 bucks at a CD store, and that's just not worth it. If you can pick this CD up for $5 or less, you'll get your money's worth for sure.
