Catch 22- Alone in a Crowd
Catch 22’s third record in as many years for the Chicago-based Victory indie is not your typical punk-ska. Much like Hepcat and Pietasters, Catch 22 mix in jazz, R&B, soul, funk, Hendrix-like guitar licks and even chamber music. Yet, these amazing East Brunswick-based musicians easily could hold their own on the punk-ska turf with the likes of The Clash and Rancid. The fact that they bring so much to the musical table makes them even more enjoyable and impressive. Victory label mate Jamey Hatebreed of the same-named punk outfit helps Catch 22 add to the band’s edge, which blows the lid off what it’s like for a band to make it out of the suburbs. Yet, the Jersey references on such tunes as ‘‘Arm To Arm’’ will make the band even more endearing in its own backyard.
