I thought that Victoy Records were pretty much a hardcore label but boy, was I wrong! Catch 22
was started almost 3 years ago and they are currently without 2 origonal members. They play
very catchy ska/punk without sounding too poppy. This is one of the tightest fast paced ska/
punk bands I've heard.
They sound along the line of Mad Caddies, Less Than Jake and Mustard Plug. They also have
heavier pieces combined with the tight horn section which creates a rather new effect, a
good expample of this is "Hard To Impress", the second song.
On this E.P. they do a ska/punk cover of "American Pie" which is absolutely brilliant! I love all
the songs on this E.P. especially the first 3. The weird thing about this CD is that the 4th song
is barely a minute long and there's a couple of hidden tracks which you can listen to, they
were recorded live. I thought that was pretty cool, you can feel the live energy of the band!
The lyrics on this CD are along the usual ska pop-punk line of chicks, relationships and the usual
crazy stuff. Another weird thing of the 4th song is that Jeff sings death metal/hardcore vocals
on this track and if you can figure out what he sings, you can win a prize! Cool idea, great ska
punk band, nifty cover, highly recommended!
