The Preditor Tuner Car: Maya Competition

Okay, this is the biggest step forward I've ever taken as far as modelling goes. The watermarks have probably 'given away' the surprise anyway... but...

I-CAN-USE-MAYA!

The much acclaimed 3D package from Alias | Wavefront that has been the object of my desire since... well... before time.

So why the sudden shift to Maya? The day before I had to go back to uni for the second semester (the day after finishing the icecream) I was watching Australia's only videogame show, Control Freaks when they aired a competition that was gonna consume more of my time that I could've imagined.

In conjunction with Electronic Arts (the developers of Need For Speed: Underground), Control Freaks is giving away a full copy of Maya 5 Complete to the one who models the best "Underground" tuner car. The opportunity is simply to good to pass up!

Anyway, after downloading Maya 4.5 Personal Learning Edition from the official website it took me a week to work out how to model the most difficult thing I've ever had to model. Modelling a car is more difficult than organic forms like faces since every curve must be perfectly pronounced.

When it comes to texturing, the most satisfying application is the tread on the tyres. Texturing isn't nearly as difficult as expected.

It would be great to win but if I don't there is great satisfaction in getting this experience and new-found confidence in Maya.
