Jamie Sale was born in Calgary, Alberta on April 21st, 1977 and grew up in Red Deer, Alberta. She began skating at age 5 and soon developped a love of the sport. While still in her teens, Jamie began skating with Jason Turner who was seven years older. They trained together at the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton. However, Jamie contined to skate as a singles skater as well. In 1992 Sale and Turner won the Junior nationals and only a year later came in fourth at Nationals. Their first international competition was the 1993 NHK Trophy where they finished fifth.

1994 was a breakthrough season for Sale and Turner. They skated a near flawless long program at the 1994 Nationals that earned them a spot on the Olympic team. At age sixteen, Jamie was the youngest member of the Canadian team in Lillehamer. Jamie finished twelth overall at the Lillehamer Games. The 1994 Worlds in Makuhari, Japan were disappointing for the young team. Exhausted from their extensive travels they placed only sixteenth in the competition.

Following the 1994 seaon, Jamie and Jason were invited to participate in the Skate the Nation Tour, a show that included skating greats like Kurt Browning, Brian Orser and Josee Chouinard. Both skaters enjoyd the experience of the tour but chose to end their partnership that summer. Jason Turner skated at Nationals the following year and Jamie returned to skating singles.

In her first year as a senior ladies skater, Jamie placed fifth at the 1995 Natonals. After that she continued to struggle with her singles career and was forced to withdraw from the 1997 nationals due to a stress fracture in her leg. At the 1998 nationals Jamie had her work cut out for her. In her long program she completed only one out of five planned triples and finished sixth overall.
