The Hippos Forget The World By PietasterSlug To some the Hippos may be just another one of those Southern California ska bands, to some they don’t even know they are a band and hippos are just animals, but to the real music lover they are one hell of a band. There debut, Forget the World, has eleven tracks that make you yearn for more. “Far Behind” and “Forget the World” make you feel like a million dollars and want to go out and really live your life. The horns in these songs, as well as with the rest of Forget the World, are simply amazing. Ariel, the lead front man, is very talented musician, playing a superior guitar and showing off his vocals. He also writes the lyrics for the band along with Louis Castle and Rich Zahniser showing off his true musical talent. The band really shows the true essence of rock and roll in “Rock ‘n’ Roll” and they pay a great tribute to one of the greatest rock bands of all time, the Police, in “So Lonely.” You can tell these guys will go places: they sold out a show in Cali with Reel Big Fish skankin’ in the crowd, they signed with Interscope Records who have such bands as Smash Mouth, the Wallflowers, and many more, and have been on many different successful compilations. This is one of my favorite CD’s and is a staple in my stereo. They really care to their fans keeping their concert ticket and CD prices down and in a concert I went to, Louis was consorting with the crowd. Listen to the band and you will know that they are very down to Earth and you will want to listen to more of their music. This is a must to any collection of any value, and I also must plug there new CD that will be coming out soon this summer.
