Hippos go on a rampage By DAVE VEITCH (david.veitch@cal.sunpub.com) Calgary Sun -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HEADS ARE GONNA ROLL The Hippos -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In America's overpopulated field of ska-influenced bands, this Los Angeles-based six-piece carves out its own niche by marrying ska not with punk, but with '60s-style garage rock complete with old-fashioned Moog synthesizer and Farfisa organ effects. The songs rarely tackle anything more significant than boy loses girl -- including a spiky version of the Bacharach-David chestnut Always Something There to Remind Me -- but they're all buoyant, tuneful and refreshingly free of pretension. Hardly revolutionary, but there are far worse ways to spend 40 minutes.
