September 2, 2000 - Vancouver @ Commodore

Back in Vancouver the crowd was quite different. sk took the stage at 12 and played a rocking’ set while fighting sound problems. Corin said that they had seen many horrible accidents on the road and that it was like “Y2 labor day.” I was standing up front near corin during the set and could swear that if I had not known what carrie was singing I would not have understood her. the sound people must have been sleeping. at one point two or three people slam danced their way up front and began to knock into people and provoke a fight. many of us felt physically threatened and uncomfortable. corin stopped before the next song to ask if there was a problem, state that violence was not ok at sk shows, and tell the assholes that they needed to solve their problem immediately. This worked (thanks corin). sleater-kinney finished their set and played “joey ramone” as part of their encore. they’ve got some new lyrics in the song now (anyone?). seeing corin’s ring (congratulations!) I couldn’t help imagine sk playing at weddings.
