Research Paper - Tourism in Antarctica
An MYP Assessed Task
This task will be used to assess Crition C & D
Due: The end of Tuesday's 2nd lesson in Week 6
Task: Investigate the affects that tourism has had on Antarctica
This Assingment has two components-
1. Writing task
(a) Why has Antarctica become such a popular tourist destination?
(b) Provide some examples demonstrating the impact that humans have had on Antarctica's fragile environment.
(c) What is being done to manage this impact?
Note: There is no word limit for each of the above points. However, if you can demonstrate that your responses are based upon information gathered from maps, graphs and other historical sources, you will score very well in this section.
2. Create a tourist brochure that explains to potential visitors to Antarctica what they can expect to see and do there. It must include:
| (a) Activities.
(b) Several places of interest.
(c) Requirements of visitors regarding the protection of Antarctica's wildlife.
(d) Anything else that you think is relevant and which makes it look like a genuine tourist brochure.
Note: To score well in this section of the assignment you should include maps of Antarctica (to show tourists where Antarctic bases are, places of interest etc.) and weather information for tourists (in the form of tables or graphs).
This assignment must be done on a computer. All of your written responses should, therefore, be typed, and your tourist brochure should be computer generated. Any work handed in that fails to adhere to this requirement will not score very highly for Criterion D.
You must include a bibliography of all information gathered to present your findings.
