Chapter 3

"Hey, man. Where've you been?" AJ called out when Howie entered the cabin they were sharing.
"Where does it look like I've been, AJ?" Howie asked, rolling his eyes as he searched through his suitcase for something to wear to dinner. Finally he decided on dark grey slacks, a grey long sleeved shirt with stripes of darker grey and a black leather jacket. AJ finally looked up from the book he was reading.
"Where you goin'?" He asked, surprised.
"Out." Howie said, walking into the bathroom to shower. AJ just shook his head, an amused look on his face. Twenty minutes later the bathroom door opened and Howie hung his head out.
"Hey AJ, can I use your gel?" He asked, while squeezing toothpaste onto his tooth brush.
"Go for it, man." AJ replied. "So, who is she?" He asked, grinning.
"What makes you think it's a girl?" Howie called back. "Do I have to have a reason to go out?"
"Nope. But you don't go to this much trouble unless there's a girl." AJ shot back. Howie stuck his head out the door and looked at AJ, who gave him a pointed look.
"Okay, okay, man." Howie sighed and grinned. "Her name's Brenna. I met her this morning in the ice rink."
"The rink? What the heck were you doing there?"
"Trying to get some peace and quiet." Howie explained. "Man, you should see her skate. She was skating to the music from "Love Story" when I came in and man, I couldn't tear my eyes away. It was... beautiful."
"So, you met this girl this morning and you're already going to dinner? Sheesh."
"And went swimming this afternoon." Howie reminded him.
"So what does this girl look like?" AJ probed.
"She has long black hair and these incredible blue eyes. She tiny, only about 5'2". And she's Canadian."
"Do I get to meet this girl?"
"Maybe tomorrow, man." Howie grinned. "Tonight is ours. I'm picking her up in about 45 minutes." He stepped out of the bathroom, wearing the outfit he'd chosen, his hair slicked back in a ponytail.
AJ whistled jokingly. "You're gonna knock her socks off, man."
"Okay, half an hour." Howie murmured, sitting on his bed and putting on his shoes. He sighed and tapped is foot impatiently.
"Man! Chill out!" AJ exclaimed.
"Sorry. I'm... nervous." Howie admitted.
"Relax for heaven's sake. It's just a date."
"Yeah, a date with an incredible girl that I already like a lot." He sighed and took a few deep breaths. "I'm going to for a walk until it's time to pick her up. I'll see ya later." He got to his feet and left the cabin.

"Yikes. He's going to be here any minute." Brenna jumped slightly as she caught a glimpse of the clock. "Okay, calm down. Put your shoes on." She told herself. She sat down and buckled her silver, heeled sandals. Taking deep breaths she walked into the bathroom, checking her make-up for the fourth time. As she walked out of the bathroom there was a light knock on the door. Fixing the straps of her dress, she walked over and opened the door. Howie stood there holding a pale pink rose. His eyes widened at the sight of her. She was wearing a lilac silk dress with spaghetti straps. (A.N.: Picture the red dress Rachael Leigh Cook wore in "She's All That")
"Wow, Brenna... You look incredible." Howie breathed.
Brenna blushed. "You look pretty good, yourself."
"Shall we?" Howie held out his hand.
"Of course." She took his hand and closing the door of her cabin, walked down the hall.
