Dawn hung up the phone turned to her boyfriend, Will.
"Well, isn't that nice. Leigh's in tears because our good friend Scott didn't even bother to phone her." Her eyes narrowed. "I can't believe him! How could he do that to her?!"
"Hey, hey! Chill! There's nothing to worry about."
"What the heck do you mean? Nothing to worry about?! She's my best friend, of course I'll worry!"
"Calm down!" Will exclaimed. "Just trust me! There's nothing to worry about."
Leigh sighed and hung up the phone. She walked back over to her bed, wiping tears from her eyes. Picking up her hair brush she ran it through her reddish-brown curls, letting her mind wander.
A gentle knocking on her door brought her back to earth.
"Who is it?" She called.
There was no response. Leigh frowned. A moment later the knocking came again.
"Jean, is that you?" She got up, crossed the room and flung open the door. "Scott." She managed to choke out through her shock, not really allowing herself to believe he was standing there in front of her.
But there he was, from his light brown curls and blue-green-grey eyes to his trademark black pants, royal blue shirt and black vest. Her eyes met his and searched them wordlessly.
"Leigh." He whispered, breaking the silence. "I'm so sorry. Will you forgive me? I never meant for you to think I'd forgotten what day it is." He held out his hand which held a perfect pink rose.
"Of course I forgive you. You're one of my best friends, Scott." She took the rose he held out to her. "I was just hurt. It hurt to think that you'd forgotten me and that it's been two years since we met."
She turned to place the rose on her dresser and felt him step inside the room behind her. She turned back to speak to him, but never had the chance. Before she could say a word his lips were on hers as he kissed her softly. She melted into his arms.
When they pulled apart he smiled and whisper, "I could never forget you, Leigh." His hands gently caressed her back. "I love you."
"I love you, too." She said softly, looking up into his eyes. "I always have."
"I'm sorry I didn't call. I wasn't sure how to tell you how I felt. And I thought you might not want to see me."
"I'll always want to see you, Scott." She smiled up at him. "Always."
"That's the best thing I've heard in a long time." He smiled at her, leaning down and kissing her gently.
