Episode 216...

I spent the whole night with Nick, just talking and holding each other. It was perfect. We talked about losing our baby and cried together. We talked about our future and laughed about our past. Eventually we fell asleep in each other’s arms. We both woke around 9am and I left to go home. We’re going to have dinner out tonight, like a proper date. It’s been so long since we had a date. I get home around 10am and walk into the kitchen where Jay is making coffee.
“Hey you,” he greets me. “Where you been?”
“I was with Nick,” I sit at the table.
“Whoa, early.”
“Uh, actually I went over last night.”
“You stayed the night with him?” Jay sits opposite me.
“Uh huh. We just fell asleep. I told him some things he needed to know and we just talked.”
“Is it on again?”
“Yeah. I’m sorry Jay,” I reach out to touch his hand. “I do love you but Nick is…”
“I know,” he says. “Just be happy Al.”
“You too.”
“Oh shit, shit, shit, shit, SHIT!” Jade walks into the kitchen and we both look up at her as she throws herself in the chair next to Jay and starts to bang her head on the table.
“Hey Jade,” I greet stupidly.
“Whoa,” Jay grabs her hair and pulls her head back to stop her from head banging. “What’s up?”
“I am SUCH an idiot!” she declares.
“Knew that already,” Jay tells her.
“I mean, a real dumb idiot!”
“Again, not telling me anything I didn’t already know. What’d you do?”
“I slept with AJ,” she mutters.
“What?!”
“Again?!” I exclaim and she nods.
“Again?!” Jay asks. “Whaddya mean AGAIN?!”
“Jade slept with AJ a few years back,” I tell him.
“What about Brian?”
“We were on a BREAK!” Jade yells.
“But you’re MARRIED now!” Jay tells her angrily. “What have you done?!”
“Fucked up three lives,” Jade mutters and drops her head down onto the table.
“I thought you loved Brian?” Jay asks.
“I do,” she says.
“You got a fine way of showing it.”
“I know!” she whines.
“You love AJ too,” I tell her softly.
“Yes,” she says miserably. “I don’t know how the hell it happened. One minute I’m looking at him and he’s just my friend and then I’m thinking how much I want to kiss him.”
“I don’t BELIEVE you Jade!” Jay yells. “I thought you were decent, I thought you had morals! You cheated on your HUSBAND!”
“Jay,” I try to calm him down. “Go for a walk round the block and calm down. I’ll talk to Jade.”
“I’m fine!”
“You are not,” I say firmly. “Go take a walk.”
He glares at me for a minute before shrugging and heading off. A few seconds later I hear the door slam shut and Jade looks up at me.
“Thanks,” she whispers.
“It’s ok,” I tell her. “Now tell me what happened.”
“We were watching a dumb TV movie and it ended and we got talking about him being in love with me and stuff. And I just realised how amazing he is, how he’s always been there for me, the only one who really gets me… And his eyes…” her voice trails off. “So I just kissed him and it went from there.”
“Y’all actually had sex?!” I exclaim.
“Uh huh,” she nods.
“Right through?”
“Uh huh,” she mutters.
“Whoa. At least you had a good time huh? I mean, I bet it would suck committing adultery if the sex was bad.”
“I’m an adulterer!” she wails.
“Uh huh,” I agree. “But it could be worse.”
“How?!” she stares at me.
“Uh… Well I’m sure it could be worse. I just can’t think how right now.”
“I should leave,” she says sadly. “Just get the hell outta both their lives.”
“That would solve nothing.”
“It might.”
“You not gonna do that?” I ask worriedly.
“No,” she admits and drops her head back down on the table.
“You can come back here to live,” I tell her. “It’ll work itself out.”
“Thanks Al,” she says.
