The Power Behind the Throne

By: Karen C. C.

[Note: I wasn't originally going to put this up, but I figured, what the heck. This was my very first Ultra Magnus/Transformers story. It's just a kind of "What would he think" type story. Everything is copyrighted and I don't claim to own it. But hope you guys still enjoy it!]

In front of his office window, observing the constellations of the archer Sagittarius and the water carrier Aquarius, the city commander reflected on his past with a content nod; he had no regrets. True, he had been in many wars and yes, he had made false decisions, but the outcomes had led him to Autobot City as the city's commander. And for a brief handful of Earth days, he had experienced the leadership burden of the Autobots and felt the Matrix inside of himself. The elders, some of which he had known when he had first been activated, had graced his dreams and permitted him be able to gain some of their wisdom, even though he was not fated to lead. The leadership path was not a comfortable position for him since his primary mission, when he was created was to follow orders and fight for freedom; he was a soldier, not a leader. But he was honored beyond words that Optimus Prime chose him as a successor. For the short time he did have the Matrix within him, he would never take that time back. Even as he was painfully blasted into pieces for it, he would never take back the experience. It had changed him forever, just as Hot Rod was transformed into his mature self as Rodimus Prime.

And at the start of the threat of Galvatron, the commander had taken it upon himself to be the guide of young Prime to become the great leader that he knew Rodimus was. As he expected, just as young Optimus had doubted himself, saying he would never be as great as Alpha Trion, so did Rodimus, saying he would never be as great as Optimus Prime. And as Rodimus led the Autobots to victory, he had stood by the young leader offering his encouragements and experience to Rodimus.

With Optimus Prime, he had fought along side, offering his assistance wherever it was needed. It was a well-known fact that he was most comfortable following Optimus' commands, for they were accurate and logical. And now with Optimus Prime's return, Rodimus' leadership worries were removed and he took up the title of second in command as Optimus took his place as leader once again. As city commander, he would once more lay down his life for the Autobots and their cause; one life to give for the peace and cooperation in the galaxy was worth it. And he, Commander Ultra Magnus, would continue to fight for that cause.

The End.
