Gin Blossoms. My number 2 band. Great band from Arizona.

The Blossoms are back
After a 4 year hiatus, the group has returned...except the drummer, Phillip Rhodes. It was official after the 2001 New Years Eve performance. They broke up in 1997 following their second album "Congratulations I'm sorry." |
The Gin Blossoms are (left to right) Phillip Rhodes (drums), Scott Johnson (guitars), Bill Leen (bass guitar), Jesse Valenzuela(guitar and background vocals), and Robin Wilson (Vocals and acoustic guitar)
The Gin Blossoms started out in 1992 with the album New Miserable Experience with the hits "Hey jealousy", "Found Out About You", "Until I Fall Away", "Mrs. Rita", and "Allison Road". Their second album, Congratulations, I'm Sorry, produced such hits as "Follow You Down"(my personal favorite), "Day Job", "As Long as it Matters", "Not Only Numb", "Whitewash", "Memphis Time" and the unforgetable b-side, "'Til I Hear It From You". |
Post-Gin Blossoms
After the Gin Blossoms went their separate ways they each did little projects of their own. Robin Wilson and Phillip Rhodes went on to become the Gas Giants and also Robin Wilson created a cartoon band called the "Poppin Wheelies". Jesse Valenzuela made an album. Scott Johnson joined the peacemakers and Bill Leen opened up a rare book store. Now that they are back and touring, they are also performing music they wrote for these side projects. |
My Review of the West Hollywood Key Club Concert 1/26/03
The Key Club show was awesome! I was with a friend who didn't really
know the Gin Blossoms. Anyway we were waiting around 9
something...cause the Gin Blossoms weren't supposed to go on til
10:30 or something... We were in the back with our earplugs cause it
was soooo loud...and all of a sudden out of the front door...a blond
guy with jeans and a jean jacket came in and talked to some personel
while holding a beer...I couldn't believe it...It was Bill Leen!
Strangly when the last opening band was over...a lot of people in
front left...so I immediatly moved to the front. finally at 10:30
they were hear and wow!!! they were great! THey played Lost
Horizons, My Hands are Tied, Hold Me Down, As Long As it Matters,
Idiot Summer, Allison Road, Mrs. Rita, Seeing Stars, Competition
Smile, Day Job, Pieces of the Night, Until I Fall Away, Found Out
About You, Til I Hear it From You, Follow You Down, Hey Jealousy,
Keli Richards and Rocket Man. It was great! The New Drummer, Scott,
was great too, considering it was only his 3rd show. Scott Johnson
was awesome! Robin jumped on the crowd a few times. Also for Follow
You Down, he asked someone to call up their mother's answering
machine as he said the lines "How are you gonna ever find your
place...running in an artifical pace..." Robin even opened As Long As
it Matters with the line "and here's a song Jesse and I wrote over
the phone" I also couldn't believe that they performed Seeing Stars!
I mean it was the only b-side they did and it is one of my favorite
songs!!! It was a lot of fun!!!!! the only thing I think could have
made it more relaxing would have been chairs...but then It probably
wouldn't have been the same though.
If you'd like to hear some samples of Gin Blossoms songs to see how cool they are, check out a couple of them below(provided by Towerrecords). Each organized by album.
