Take a Look... It's in a Book... Reading Rainbow. |
|
I really do love books. With the written word, all the knowledge in the world is right there in the palm of your hand. When you're holding something as sacred as the Bible, that much is evident. Still, even in flipping through Garfield's Big Day, you are holding the brainchild of one man's creativity, humor, and literary imagination. Whenever someone writes a book or anything for that matter, they place a little bit of themselves in it. When you see it that way, it makes you much more reluctant to toss a binded stack of paper by the wayside (or into the "circular file").
Books to Read, Writers to Consider |

There are so many
good books out there. You've just got to go out and find 'em.
Here are few I'd recommend. Some are obvious, others not.
Per my recommendation... click A good book either changes you or helps you endure life. Perhaps. Stuff to think over... |

Vertically-Challenged Stories |
|
Currently, my favorite genre. Of course, the benefits of a good short story are legion. For one, they're concise. And perhaps that's what makes them so hard to write... when writing a novel, an errant sentence or two - paragraphs even - can be overlooked. In a short story, you're packing a smorgasbord of literary devices into a Dasani bottle. Richard Yates and Richard Ford are among the more recent masters. Here's a growing collection. All are good.

Whether it is something you've been mulling over recently or a book you read in days gone by, post it here. Anything interesting, insightful or simply fun... recommend something. <smile> A novel, a comic strip, a magazine article, a movie... anything! |
