Haven't got the right ingredients on hand just now for cooking or baking? For best results use the exact measurements,

pan sizes or ingredients specified in the recipe; however, when in a pinch you can use the following substitutions.

Baking Powder

For= 1 teaspoon = Use 1/2 tsp. cream of tarter + 1/4 tsp.baking soda

Buttermilk

For= 1 cup = Use 1 tsp. lemon or vinegar + enough milk to measure 1 cup

Cake Flour

For= 1 cup = Use 7/8 cup all-purpose flour

Cornstarch

For= 1 Tablespoon = Use 2 Tbps. all-purpose flour

Cracker Crumbs

For= 3/4 cup = Use 1 cup bread crumbs

Dark corn syrup

For= 1 cup = Use 3/4 cup light corn syrup + 1/4 molasses or 1 cup light corn syrup

Garlic

For= 1 clove,minced = Use 1/8 tsp. garlic powder

Garlic Salt

For= 1 tsp. = Use 1/8 tsp. garlic powder 7/8 tsp. salt

Half-and-Half

For= 1 cup = Use 1 Tbps. melted buter + enough whole milk to equal 1 cup

Honey

For= 1 cup = Use 1-1/4 cups sugar + 1/4 cup liquid

Lemon juice

For= 1 tsp. = Use 1/4 tsp. cider vinegar

Lemon peel

For= 1 tsp. = Use 1/2 tsp. lemon extract

Light corn syrup

For= 1 cup = Use 1 cup sugar + 1/4 cup liquid

Molasses

For= 1 cup = Use 1 cup honey

Onion

For= 1 small, chopped = Use 1 tsp. onion powder or 1 Tbsp. dried minced onion

Prepared mustard

For= 1 Tbsp. = Use 1/2 tsp. ground mustard + 2 tsp. vinegar

Semiswt. chocolate

For= 1 ounce = Use 3 Tbsp. semisweet chocolate chips or 1 oz. unsweetened chocolate + 1 Tbsp. sugar

Sour cream

For= 1 cup = Use 1 cup plain yogart

Sugar

For= 1 cup = Use 1 cup packed brown sugar or 2 cups sifted confectioners' sugar

Tapioca

For= 2 tsp. = Use 1 Tbsp. all-purpose flour

Tomatoe juice

For= 1 cup = Use 1/2 cup tomatoe sauce + 1/2 cup water

Tomatoe sauce

For= 2 cups = Use 3/4 cup tomatoe paste + 1 cup water

Unswtd. Chocolate

For= 1 ounce = Use 3 Tbsp. cocoa + 1 Tbsp. shortening or oil

Whole milk

For= 1 cup = Use 1/2 cup evaporated milk + 1/2 cup water
