A reference to the Wontner name can be found in Thomas Hood's poem. "Lines to Mary (At No. 1 Newgate, Favoured by Mr Wontner)". Thomas Hood lived between 1799-1845. He acted on stage and in films, including in the "Life and Death of Colonel Blimp" and "Genevieve". Most notably he portrayed Sherlock Holmes in 5 films in the 1930s.
