POEM BY MARY LILLEOUS MARS- NO. 8
"Roger in the corn-patch,
Whistling Negro songs;
Pussy by the hearth-side,
Romp-ing with the tongs;
Chestnuts in the ashes,
Bursting thro the wind;
Red-leaf and gold leaf
Rustling down the wind.
Mother doing peaches
All the afternoon
Don't you think that Autumn's
Pleasanter than June?"

"110 STATE STREET, NEWBURYPORT, MASS. April 13.
Dear Steve and Bertha:-
Have been going to answer your letter a long time ago but it seems letter writing gets postponed-
Well, Andrew is gone. I can not realize it-but who would want him to live and suffer-and he surely did- it seems almost impossible one could change in looks as he did..."
The above letter was written by Mary Lilleous Mars to her brother Stephen Mars shortly after the death of their brother Andrew in April 1926.
