Limited Slip

The limited slip is now installed on the car. When you hit the gas it will still spin the tires in first and scond gear but, it's not near as bad. The main thing that I noticed is that there not only less wheel spin but, it is much more controllable and helps out in the corners. Previuosly, the car would want to slide the rear end almost all the way around if you stayed in the throttle while in a tight corner such as would find in a city street. Also if a city has less than sticky pavement then the car would at times feel like it was going to spin all the way around while in second gear if you speed shifted the car into second gear. Now the car spins the tires but, keeps going straight stay on the gas longer. All this is great other than the fact that now I want bigger brakes for a more confident feel while paying with the car at the higher limits it is able to explore now.

This is the somewhat common LSD out of a 87 300ZX. I say common because they were a factory issue R-200 back in the day. In reality they are not all that common any more. Even a used one will get 400.00 to 500.00 in the used parts marketplace. The factory issue LSD's came with 45 pounds of breakaway torque but, the Nismo units can be found with 75 pounds of breakaway torque. A rebuilder can custom tailor a unit for you but, it can get expensive.

These units usally come with a finned rear cover but, mine didn't. You can get one from Nismo that has an enlarged bottom area that will hold more fluid. This cover is also tapped for an oil cooler for those long runs under power. Eventually I will get one of these and get it installed.
