Clutch and Flywheel

I've been through several clutches in my quest for the best all around street clutch that will hold the power and not be like a roller coaster while starting off at a light. So far this one seems to be the best yet. I bought it from Dial-a-Clutch it's rated for 103% increase in power over stock. The clutch has a stiff pressure plate and an organic disc for easy engagement. Hopefully, when I get to this power level the clutch will hold.

Here is the back of the stock flywheel that I had lightened by Top End Performance they take 5 pounds of material out of the stock unit and it really helps the feel of the low compression L-28ET. With the stock compression of only 7.4 to 1 you need every little bit on help you can get. I like this because you’re not leaning on the motor anymore and you’re freeing up some horsepower by lightening the stock unit. Of course there are aftermarket flywheels that look like a piece of artwork and it's a crime to cover them up with the clutch and transmission. The cost of the aftermarket units is pretty steep and they are in the 13 pound range. I thought this might be to light for my application. Yes, I want the car to be as fast as possible but, it also has to pass the wife test. If she can't drive it then it's not as fun any more. I like for her to be able to drive the car if need be. The lighter flywheels can make a car hard to get going on the street.

8/02/04 So far the clutch has hel up to the last 20,000 miles and some serious abuse. When I had the transmission rebuilt I checked the disc and it looked almost new. The pressure plate and flywheel also looked to be in good condition aswell. This is the first clutch setup that I think I've ever had that has held up this long. All the others would have been slipping and have heat check marks on both the flywheel and the pressure plate.
