Custom Metal Intake

As you can see here are some pictures of the intake tube that I made this last summer.('02) What I was trying to do was eliminate the crazy intake tube from the AFM to the turbo. If you take yours apart you'll see that Nissan had to install a wire coil inside of the tube so that it would not collapse during times of high vacuum. I made this tube out of 1 3" U-Bend that I bought from JC Whitney they seem to have some of the better prices on this type of product. After awhile of looking at the whole thing I cut it in half and turned it around to make the tube be at opposite ends from how it came. Then I went and had it welded up and two vacuum hose fittings added. This is what led me to buying a welder and doing this type thing myself. I was charged 25.00 for the small amount of welding and when I got it home and started cleaning up the welds I noticed that there were several holes in the welds that would have caused vacuum leaks. I eventually cut the fittings off that were welded on and used the build up of material to install some brass fittings. I added the 3/4" fitting on the top side for the vent from the valve cover. A small amount of body putty was used to clean up and sanding marks that I had made while cleaning up the welds. The end result seemed to turn out just like I planed it to and should be beneficial when I add more power.
