Shoujo Kakumei Utena has been a real hit in Japan.  It is often classified as "pure shojou", wich means the aimed audience is essentially feminine.  The tale of teenage girl Utena has been told in manga, tv series and one movie.

Essentially, the series can be divided in three sagas of 13 episodes each.

The Student Council Saga
The main elements are set, but only a few things are explained.  Every Student Council member will duel Utena, sometimes more than once, to win (back) the Rose Bride.  Most main characters are introduced.

The Black Rose Saga
Basically, some lame morons will try to defeat Utena in order to kill the Rose Bride because they have been told bringing the world's revolution would solve their problems.  New, but less imortant are presented.  Utena meets Akio right from the beginning of this part.

The Othori Akio Saga
The plot is explained.  Secrets are revealed about the real identity of some characters.  Relationships become stronger.  The final scene is told in the last two episodes.
