The Solar Eclipse


Thread - Total Eclipse

On Dec 4, 2002 there was a solar eclipse visible in parts of  Australia.  These photographs were taken by  Julia Bell, a contributor to the list, at Ravensthorpe. W.A.

With a solar eclipse near the horizon, a Shadow Cone, caused by refraction of differing wavelengths of sunlight by the earth's atmosphere is formed.  The photograph below shows the shadow cone  as seen from Ceduna.  For a more detailed explanation see Solar Cone.
