I went to the Observatory first going to Hosur. From Hosur I caught a Chennai
bus passing via a big town called Vaniyambadi which is 20 km. from Kavalur. It
is here that I got a bus going to a small village called Alangayam which is 10
km. from Kavalur. From Alangayam I went to Kavalur.
For those of you who plan to visit the Observatory, the following routes can be
chosen. Vainu Bappu Observatory is situated approximately 160 km. from Bangalore
in Tamil Nadu.
1) From Bangalore Railway Station go to Majestic Bus stand (opposite Railway
Station). Here you can get a bus going from Bangalore to Chennai via Vellore.
Get down directly at a small town called Vaniyambadi (before Vellore) which is
approximately 135 km from Bangalore. From Vaniyambadi bus-stand you can get a
local bus going directly to Kavalur Observatory which's approximately 30 km.
from here. Or you can go to the nearest village Alangayam (20 km from
Vaniyambadi). From here catch the bus going to Kavalur Observatory which's 10 km
from this village.
Kavalur Observatory is the stop itself.
ROUTE : Bangalore - Hosur - Krishnagiri - Vaniyambadi - Alangayam -
Kavalur
2) From Hosur (Tamil Nadu, 40 km from Bangalore) you can catch a bus going to
Vellore or Chennai. From here you can get a direct bus also to Kavalur but the
frequency is very less. Or else follow the above same route.
