Light My Fire – AU

 

Blair carefully set the beaker down into the bottom of the sink, before looking up at Sam for more instructions.

 

“Now, put some water from the tap on it,” Sam instructed.

 

Noticing that the beaker was out of line from the faucet, he used his right hand to move it to a better position, while his left hand reached for the faucet’s cold water knob to turn on the water.  It was a simple habit, meant to save a little time.

 

Sam glanced from Blair to Jim, wondering how he was going to react to this.  Didn’t matter she figured, no one was going to get hurt.  She glanced back at Blair just as he opened the tap.  Her shouted, “No!” coincided exactly with the water hitting the beaker and flame shooting up to catch Blair arm.

 

Blair instinctively jerked backward, shouting in pain, but as he moved he lost his balance and went over backward, striking his head hard on the tile floor and lapsing into unconsciousness.

 

Jim had started moving when he saw the horrified expression cross Samantha’s face.  He was too late to keep Blair from falling, but he managed to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of Blair’s clothes. Hissing, he surveyed the damage to Blair’s arm.  “Call an ambulance!” 

 

Sam was already dialing her phone when Jim spoke.  After she finished that, she pulled a couple of sealed sterile towels from a cabinet and handed them to Jim.  “Here, cover him with these.  Oh, god, what have I done?”
