The Alqui are an aquatic race which inhabits the shallower parts of the planet's oceans. They range in length from 3'6" to 5'2" (average), not counting the tail fins. They have long hair on their heads, long thin eyebrows, and smooth skin. Their tails have horizontal flukes and are covered with sparkly, iridescent scales, usually in a jewel tone. The most common color is a deep green. They have thin, pointy ears which they can close at will, allowing them to "hear" both under and above water. They have very large eyes, with no eyelashes, and small noses. Their skin tone ranges from very pale to rich tan. Hair colors range from white to blue to black, covering the whole aquatic spectrum. Hair is never red or brown. They are physically very slender and graceful, but this can be decieving. Due to their environment, they are very strong. We found this out when our photographer decided to teach them arm-wrestling. While they have gills (about where our collarbone is located), they also have an airway like ours, allowing them to breathe above water. Due to the fact that air is not their natural environment, this airway is not as large or fully developed as ours. This causes the Alqui to have very quiet voices above water - most of the air they get goes to breathing, not talking. The Alqui can breathe in both fresh water and the sweet ocean water, allowing them to travel in rivers. The Alqui are the oldest of the three races and have very strong magic, particuarly in transportation.
