Alexander Karpovtsev was claimed off waivers by the Atlanta Thrashers from the Washington Capitals. He is a good defensive defenseman when he actually plays. His down fall is that he is injured quite a bit. This often injured defenseman is big and very good in his own end. He is 6 feet and 3 inches tall and weighs 221 pounds. He takes his man effectively in his own end, and does it well without committing a penalty. He can prove to be valuable to the Thrashers who commit a lot of penalties. He will be used as a depth defenseman and will be playing for a contract as he is going to be an unrestricted free agent this summer coming up. A lot of teams will be watching to see how he does for Atlanta down the stretch and in the post season.
