This is Jeff Hackett's second time around in Atlanta. First he was signed by Atlanta, as an unrestricted free agent and the second time he came over in a trade that sent Milan Hnilicka the other way. Jeff Hackett was the first big free agent that the Thrashers signed in their history. His first year with the Thrashers, he was named MVP as he almost got the Thrashers to the playoffs with almost no defensive help. When free agency came around again, the Thrashers went after another unrestricted free agent goalie in Arturs Irbe. When Atlanta signed Irbe, they quickly shipped Hackett to the New York Islanders. Now hackett is back in Atlanta and will serve as back up or even a starter. There is a lot of promise in net and Hackett will battle for the starting job.
