Last year Roman Lyashenko was named the best defensive forward not in the NHL. He has solid offensive skills but phenomenal defensive skills. At 21 years old he already received full time duty on the Thrashers 3rd line and penalty killing lines. When he reaches full potential he will get a couple nominations for the Selke and even win it. He was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the 1997 NHL entry draft, in the 2nd round 52nd overall. He is 6 feet tall and weighs 190 pounds. He will be a 3rd line centre on the Atlanta Thrashers for years to come due to his defensive capabilities. He is a native of Murmansk, USSR. In 1999-2000 Roman Lyashenko played in a total of 58 games scoring 6 goals and adding 6 helpers for 12 points. He is a great addition to the Atlanta Thrasher team. With his tragic passing Roman will always be remembered in Atlanta.
