Sergei Gonchar is one of the best offensive defenseman in the game. He is a powerplay specialist and will shore up the team's special teams. His defensive game is quite underrated but he is still considered a top 5 defenseman in the league and many consider him as the best offensive defenseman in the game. He has a great point shot and is also a very good passer. Not overly physical as well and not an overwhelming hitter, but he plays a smart game in his own zone. He will take out the man effectively. He will make a very scary top pairing of himself and Bryan McCabe and a very formidable defense down the road with himself, Markov, McCabe, Pitkanen, Hamrlik, Staios and Colaiacovo. Gonchar definately gives an anchor in the back end.
