~ CKC Library ~

The idea here is that if you own any kayaking books or videos that you are willing to share, email us with the Tittle, Author, Year, and provide a brief description and your contact info. You can then get in touch with other club members, and share and trade your stuff - either at the next event, or by mail. This way we can all benefit from the great resource pool that we have. Note: it really sucks to lend out books and not get them back. Use them, treat them well, and return them as quickly as possible. Buy one yourself if you want to leave it sitting on your shelf or in the back of your stinky paddling car. I have a few books I'll be putting up here soon.

Knots for Paddlers. Walbridge, Charlie. 1995.
18 useful knots for paddlers. From knots for roof-racking your boat, to knots used in river rescue. Useful book.

Kayak: The Animated Manual of Intermediate and Advanced Whitewater Technique. Nealy, William. 1986.
I didn't realize this book was so old - but you can still buy it, and I'm not sure if anything has been changed in newer printings. The cartoons are a lot of fun, and there is lots of good info, some things have changed since 1986 though.

Canadian Rockies Whitewater: A River Guide For Canoeists, Kayakers, and Rafters. (Southern Rockies). Smith, Stuart.
"This is the first of Stuart Smith's detailed and comprehensive guidebooks to the Canadian Rockies. 125 runs are described in detail including lots of useful info like maps, gauges, gradient profiles, etc. There are also entertaining trip reports included with the runs."

Sea Kayaker's Pocket Guide. Johnson, Shelley. 2001
A little book covering quite a bit. Um... I think it actually belongs to my dad.

Whitewater Trips for Kayakers, Canoeists, and Rafters in British Columbia. Pratt-Johnson, Betty. 1986
Pretty much what the title says. An older guidebook.

Every Crushing Stroke. Shipley, Scott. 2002.
Written as a comprehensive manual for slalom paddlers. Lots of information that may not be available elsewhere. The first section is mostly the story of Shipley's personal evolution as an athlete. It goes into many aspects of training, and finishes with a lot of good, specific drills and workouts you can do. Written for slalom paddlers, any paddler serious about improving can learn something from it.
