D.O.B : 14/04/83 Height : 6 ft 0 WEIGHT : 75kgs RECRUITED FROM : Marcellin Eagles YEARS EXPERIENCE : 8 |
Niko began playing basketball in Grade 6. He wanted to be like his idols
in the NBA and there was also a strong push from his family to take up the
sport.
Niko was always used as a center/power
forward in his younger years, because of his unusual height. However, as
1998 came around, his growth stopped and he had to adapt a smaller game
style. This meant an improvement in his shot, but he still lacked the
fundamental ball handling skills possessed by more versatile players.
While he continues to play
strong, his constant twisted ankle may hamper performance, and reduces his
agility. Never one for defeat, Niko’s stamina remains strong because of
his iron will and the fact that he is probably the only non-smoker on the
court.
STRENGTHS:
His rebounding skills are very good, due to his constant strengthening of
his standing jump. After years of being pounded in the paint, he can stand
up to most opposing centers (i.e. Paul and Costa). His mid range shot has
grown with his strength, and when Niko finds his spot on the floor, he
can some of the toughest shots in transition. WEAKNESSES: Two words - Ball Handling. His non-existent role as a guard never gave Niko the opportunity to perfect a lightening fast crossover…or even some of the fundamentals. Pretty much self-taught in this area and can panic when pressured in order to avoid an embarrassing stripped ball.
