Xtreme Acro and Cheer
1. Nick Orrick called the Fall Meeting for the Eastern Region to order at 6:04 p.m.
2. Karen Baker volunteered to take minutes.
3. Introductions were held. An attendance list is attached (attachment 1).
4. Elections for the new regional offices were held. Nick Orrick read a description of the office responsibilities (attachment 2), nominations were accepted, and a secret ballot was conducted. The following is a list of the new Region 7 committee chairs.
Regional Administrative Committee Chair – Nick Orrick
Regional JO Committee Chair – Resi Buell-Size
Regional Technical Committee Chair – Janet Von Bargen
Regional Judges Coordinator – Tom Guiel
Regional Athlete Representative – Erin Hegg
5. Janet Von Bargen gave a report on the 2002 FIG Sports Acrobatics World Age Group Games in Reisa, Germany in September. In the 12-18 age group, the US earned silver in Women’s Pairs and Women’s Trios. In the World Championships, the US mixed pair earned gold! She also announced that Team Trials would be held Jun 18-21 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the 2003 National Championships would be held the end of July in Jacksonville, FL in conjunction with an international Freedom Cup (see announcement at http://www.usa-gymnastics.org/acro/2002/announcedates.html).
6. A discussion was held about establishing standard meet fees in the region for local and state meets. It was stated that there was too much variance in the cost of a meet based on the size of the meet, number of judges used, etc.
7. A discussion was held about the minimum number of judges used for a meet; specifically concerning the fact that the arbiter has to give an execution score and an artistry score. It was suggested that an experienced difficulty judge might be able to give the execution score, as long as the arbiter realizes that he or she is responsible for that score; otherwise, the arbiter will have to plan on giving both scores if a 5th judge is not hired. Tom Guiel, the Regional Judges’ Coordinator, will keep this in mind when scheduling judges.
8. A discussion was held about when to hold the Judges’ Clinic. The clinic has to be team taught by two individuals over a 2-day period. Janet Von Bargen will invite Linda Ocmand for one of the first three weekends in January 2003.
9. The final item of business was to establish the regional meet schedule. The following meets were scheduled.
Feb 2 Regional Clinic @ Paragon
Feb 16 Novaks
Feb 23 EAGC
Mar 9 EAGC
Mar 16 Xtreme
Mar 30 Xtreme
April 6 EAGC
Apr 12 (Sat night) Xtreme
Apr 27 MD State (Location TBD)
May 4 VA State @ Novaks
Jun 7-8 Region 7 Regionals @ Paragon
10. Nick Orrick stated that there were some old regional offices that were still needed that he would like filled: Regional Publicity Committee Chair and Regional Clinic Committee Chair. Sharise Esh volunteered to be the Regional Publicity Committee Chair. The Clinic Committee Chair is still open.
11. The meeting was adjourned at 8:26 p.m.
Addition:
There was also a
discussion around 2 panels versus 1 for a meet and that the threshold (for our
region) is around the 25 pair/group routines point. If there are to be
more routines than 25, the organizers need to plan on 2 panels.
There was also two other subtle reminders:
1) As per USAG - An athlete or group that drops from a competition within
10 days of the meet - the decision to refund any fees will be solely at the discretion
of the organizing group. Fees will not be automatically be returned.
2) Judges will receive a mileage allowance for travel to meets that are
more than 30 miles (one way or round trip?)
