Defensive Stance
Presented by
For Infielders AND Outfielders
The defensive stance is not just for infielders; outfielders should also get into a defensive stance during every pitch.
The defensive stance allows you to move quickly in any direction. Stand facing home plate. Bend your knees slightly, and stand with your feet shoulder width apart. Stand with your arms slightly bent and just in front of your body. Push off with the foot opposite the direction you want to go.
"Split seconds count, so rely on the defensive stance for explosive power to reach hard-hit balls, either in the infield or the outfield."

The best way to work on the defensive stance is to practice. Get as much practice on the field as you can, and work on fielding both high and low balls with a friend. Be sure to get into an athletic, game-like defensive position, even in practice
Troubleshooting Tips
Efficiency
Avoid standing with your feet too close together. This
way, you avoid having to take an extra initial step.
To Move Fast Every second counts, so do not stand with your weight back. Keep your weight on the balls of your feet so you can move quickly.
