Tagging a runner

Ripken Baseball

Straddle the bag.

Have the ball in your glove, close your glove tightly and tag the runner with the back of your glove hand.

Never show the ball to the runner.

On a close play, take the glove down and right back up.

Make umpire feel you always know the runner was out.

Fake the runner by standing straight up...

Stay with a sliding base runner, as many times he will come off the bag.

Watch for a straight-in slider sliding away from bag and coming in with his hand.

Fake the runner by standing straight up with hands on your sides as if there will be no play on him. He may slow down and be tagged out—this play occurs more often at third base than at second base.
